b"I dont let people drive on my driveways, Gallery developer Rick Hauser declares as we approach the Belice, the 3,200-square-foot, two-story home that is the jewel in Gallery at Miralons crown. We stop and admire the driveway. It is, indeed, pristine, as if it had been hand-scrubbed that morning. When prospective homeowners come and do their walkthroughs, I have a barricade up. At first, they get all prissy [because] they want to park in my driveway. But I say, It's not your driveway. Not yet. Its mine. And I dont want any tire marks on my driveway. Then they say, Well, thats kind of cool.Hauser is tanned and fit from a dedication to tennis that he shares with his wife, Linda. He is an energetic guy whose passion for the homes he builds is palpable as he describes all the exquisite details that he put into the four models that make up Gallery at Miralons collection. He opens the gate and points along the walkway of the interior courtyard. Second thing every builder does. Whats usually right here? The hose bin, he says, shaking his head in disdain. Hauser backs out of the gate and points to the garage. My hose is inside the cornerwith my shut-off valve and the pressure regulator. Its all in the details. Miralon is a master-planned community set on 309 acres north of East San Rafael. When Freehold Communities acquired the land in 2016, there were already walls surrounding the entire property. Before the real estate crash in 2009, the property was being developed as a golf community. Though no homes were ever built, the golf course was laid out. Miralons marketing manager, Kevin Taylor, says that Freehold, whose 11 master-planned communities across the United States emphasize sustainability, rejected the idea of yet another golf-centric community. Instead, Miralon is designed to be an agrihood community. In partnership with Temecula Olive Oil Company, the former golf course was planted with 7,000 olive and citrus trees. In the next couple of years when the trees begin bearing fruit, theyll be harvested and processed into Miralon Olive Oil and residents will be stakeholders in the enterprise. Furthermore, the developments commitment to agrihood is evident in the master plan. When the community is fully built out, there will be 1,150 single-family homes along with a number of townhouses. Nevertheless, there will still be 97 acres of open space with over seven miles of connected hiking trails and paved paths. There will even be three dedicated dog parks, one of 32| Desert Magazine May 2023DM_MAY2023.indd 32 4/3/23 1:54 PM"
